Swavesey is a very popular village lying on the Greenwich Meridian, with an approximate population of 2,480, the village is situated 9 miles to the north west of Cambridge. Listed as Suauesye in the Doomsday Book, the name Swavesey means “landing place (or island) of a man named Swaef”
There are two schools in the village; Swavesey Primary School, which claims to be the only school in the United Kingdom to lie on the meridian, and Swavesey Village College, both schools are very popular which is why Swavesey is a village considered by many in order to raise a family.
Swavesey Village College has an intake from surrounding villages like Over, Bar Hill, Longstanton, Fenstanton and more and has scored repeatedly well in recent OFSTED reports.
The village has many local shops and businesses, including a large business park on the edge of the village near the A14. some of the local shops and facilities include a post office, doctors surgery, hairdressers, two village stores, opticians and a public house called the White Horse which is located on the market square.
Swavesey holds many events throughout the year and previous recent events include a French farmers market, steam rally and fair.
Swavesey offers lots of varying types of properties as the village has seen small bursts of housing development along the years; the most recent of which being the ’Cherry Trees’ development which offers a range of family houses. However if you are drawn to more period homes then there are some very beautiful homes found along the High Street, Middlewatch and Blackhorse Lane as a few examples.
