ABOUT THE AREA Kingston is a small Parish, approximately 7 miles to the west of Cambridge and covering 1907 acres. The land is largely agricultural, with Kingston Wood covering around 100 acres. The name Kingston, meaning "The Kings Manor" implies that the village was, prior to the Norman Conquest, a Royal Vill and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1086. The village thrived in the medieval times and there are a number of houses of this era remaining and many others dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. There are 21 listed buildings or structures in the village. There was probably a church in the village in the 11th century, nut the present building dates from the 13th century.
