Location

Holywell can be found approximately 17.8 miles (28.65 kilometres) from the centre of Cambridge and 2.8 miles (4.51 kilometres) from the centre of St. Ives.

Village Information

Holywell is a small and charming village just west of the Prime Meridian, in the civil parish of Holywell-cum-Needingworth, situated within Huntingdonshire.

Just like its neighbour Needingworth, the village enjoys the benefit of ‘village life’ as well as enjoying walks into open countryside along the River Great Ouse, but with the convenience of being a five minute car journey to St. Ives. As well as a wide range of shops and a weekly market, the guided busway in St.Ives runs up to every 7 minutes into Cambridge,
and 15 minutes into Huntingdon.

Aptly named, there is a holy well within the church grounds, which flows into the nearby Great Ouse and from where the village took its name. St John Baptist Church dates back further than reliable records began.

Facilities

There are few facilities in the village but with Needingworth only 0.9 miles (1.45 kilometres) away, where a number of facilities can be found. There is a pretty thatched pub that sees day boats mooring for lunch in the summer as it fronts on to the River Great Ouse. The Ferry Boat claims to be the oldest Inn in England and has been serving alcohol here since 560 AD. The inn is reputed to be haunted and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
