Location

Great Shelford & Little Shelford are located about 4 miles (6.44 kilometres) south of Cambridge and 10 miles (16.09 km) north of Saffron Walden just east of the M11. 

Village Information

The village is situated on the River Cam and has a busy and bustling community with a population of approximately 4,233 residents.  The village has a monthly farmers market which is popular with many of the surrounding villages too. Both Great and Little Shelford have access to London Liverpool Street station at Shelford mainline station. 

The village has many sports facilities including a successful rugby union team which competes in the RFU’s National League 2 south. Great Shelford Cricket Club, who plays in the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon Premier League Division 2 and Great Shelford FC who play in the Cambridgeshire Football League.

Little Shelford is substantially smaller than Great Shelford but has its pub ‘The Navigator’ which is located on the high street.

Great and Little Shelford primary school has approximately 200 pupils and has an Ofsted rating of good with Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology and Sawston village college both under two miles away.

Facilities

There is a good selection of shops and businesses including two mini supermarkets, library, restaurants, a children's clothing shop, a delicatessen and bakers’ shop, chemist, dentist and chiropractor.

Great Shelford has two pubs, The Plough which is a small, recently renovated pub with a large  garden and The Square and Compasses was originally two farmers cottages built around 1652 and has a small pub garden.

The garden centre is very popular to visit not only to buy garden items but to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in the café, it is well renowned for seasonal activities and displays.
