Location

Just off junction 10 of the M11, Duxford is a village formed on the banks of the River Cam about 10 miles (16.09 kilometres) south of Cambridge. It is neighbouring the pretty villages of Hinxton and Ickleton and has the benefit of two train stations nearby in Whittlesford and Great Chesterford.

Village Information

Home to The Imperial War Museum, RAF Duxford is now known as the Duxford Aerodrome. RAF Duxford was a former Royal Air Force airfield that was used as a sector station during the Battle of Britain.

In the centre of this attractive village you will find two pubs, The Plough and The John Barleycorn, a thatched 17th-century hotel, pub and restaurant.

The village hosts an annual Christmas market at the St. Johns Church with profits that go towards improving the village and the high octane Duxford Soapbox Derby, which is an enjoyable afternoon watching a chaotic dash around the village from drivers in anything from a wheelbarrow to an old iron bath.

Facilities

Duxford has a primary school which was rated as good in its most recent Ofsted inspection, a small mini supermarket, a village community centre which is due to be completed in 2020, a café and three churches.

The local football team is Duxford United FC who play their home games on the recreation ground, which also has two tennis courts, and a children’s play area.
