Location

Meldreth, a village approximately ten miles (16.09 kilometres)  south-west of Cambridge and 4.3 miles (6.92 kilometres) from Royston, has a train station which links directly to London Kings Cross, Royston and Cambridge stations. Meldreth also has an excellent road network giving convenient access to both the M11 and A10.

Village Information

Melwood nature reserve is 0.6 hectares of leaved woodland with dense thickets set in a riverside  habitat, a perfect setting for the many events held throughout the year.  The River Mel runs through the west of the wood and is one of only 161 chalk streams in England, the source originating from springs at Melbourn Bury. Such streams tend to be clear as they have been filtered through layers of chalk. Meldreth was also once famous for its fruit production, where many orchards still remain with their fruit locally sold.

Facilities

The village has a convenience store, and a farm shop within the garden centre that sells fruit and vegetables with a café, butcher and fishmongers.

The British Queen public house is a traditional public house which serves locally sourced and seasonal food every day of the week, with a popular gin menu, well-kept beers and regularly changing guest ales.

There is a primary school in the village which is rated good by Ofsted and the secondary school catchment is Melbourne Village College, also rated good.
