Location

Castle is a district council ward, the heart of which is located approximately 1.2 miles (1.93 kilometres) from the city centre.

Local Information

 

Built by the Normans in 1068 Cambridge Castle once stood on Castle Mound, which is where the Castle district takes its name. According to the UK Census in 2011 the population of Castle was 9,785. Since then, due to the new build development at Eddington, which was started in 2017 the population of Castle Ward has increased significantly#

Facilities

Huntingdon Road and the streets just off are a highly popular residential area which also links central Cambridge with Junction 14 of the M11 motorway and the A14.

Magdalene Street is a highly popular part of the City with a range of great restaurants and access to the Quay and the famous Cambridge punts.

There are numerous parks and open spaces including Eddington Avenue which is a new playground in walking distance to the cricket pitch and football pitch and Brook Leys Lakes, which  store the rainwater that runs off the land and is filtered and pumped back into homes on site and has a picnic area.

Schools in the Castle District are the Mayfield and the University of Cambridge primary schools.
